Hinduism - a question revisited

Someone brought the topic of Hinduism, its challenges not in India, but in the U.S where it is studied as a course in Universities as 'Religious Studies' course. There was also mention of Vikram Malhotra who wrote 'Breaking India'. He took a contrarian view on the Indology being practiced and is running a research foundation to break the stereotyping of Hinduism.

Now, I am not sure what to make of it.. but will surely try to read after... maybe...20-30 years.

An unrelated topic is regarding Sanskrit. As per the official census India 2001, the people who can read, write and speak Sanskrit (all three) in India is a mind boggling 42,000.  Pretty depressing, I will surely do my bit by learning, thanks to Hindi, I can read and write the devanagari script. Understanding and speaking to strike conversations is what I have to learn.

Deep introspection

Had a bout of deep introspection after watching 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes'. The actions done during the active lifetime (30-40 years) of a single man / woman, aggregated collectively as by the human race, impact not just immediate family  (of the individual), but the whole ecosystem (of other sentient beings and not). The individual may have a short sight of those 30-40 years, but the balancing system will take a broad view of like probably 200 years - pre & post industrialization.

Is Global warming real or unreal ?
Is animal testing good or bad ? do benefits outweigh the ethical concerns ?
Did we stop increasing our intelligence and other species / genus are catching up ?

Re: the famous quote in Matrix by Agent Smith ? "Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet...Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You're a plague and we are the cure. "

I am not strong on the above views but what else also I am not sure about is what's going on: What's the state of the planet some 20,000 km above.

Are we good to the place we call as home ?

UPDATE: June 16th - read that never in the history of earth, we had 400ppm other gases...due to the global warming. We had a peak of 296ppm which we crossed... there have been 8 ice ages on earth, maybe this 400 is the harbinger of the next one.... god (or creator) knows.....

Who are we ?

Just asking myself a question - who am i ? where am i ? in the whole time of the universe, when am I ? comparing myself to a trilobite which inhabited / thrived probably 10 mn years ago... ? where are we in terms of the 5mn years that is our life energy source sun's 'age' ? What will happen when Sun becomes a white dwarf ? All industrialization that man created and the 'Technologically Modern Man' (contrasted to 'Anatomically Modern Man' of anthropology) TMM is 100 or 150 yrs old, whereas AMM is 70,000 years old. So what is our greatness ? Are we the only intelligent life ?

Probably dinosaurs as a genus /species lived and thrived longer..... We are on our path to self destruct through global warming or is it that Earth will adjust itself ?

Will there be a nuclear catastrophe in which all countries will be sucked in ?

So what is the secret of life ? Is it the billions of dollars or .........something that we can't comprehend yet... the purpose of life ..... is there an alien life .... another planet or moon ?

Why is there no interest at all by NASA for any moon missions ?

Topic of the day: 'Devon ke Dev - Mahadev' - LifeOK - 8PM everyday

I am hooked on recently to a new TV show running on 'LifeOK' channel at 8PM. Its a mythological and titled 'Devon ke Dev - Mahadev'. Its been such a long time after Ramayana, Mahabharata and Vikram Betaal (in late 80s and early 90s), that I have been locked before the TV screen. The characters are potrayed so real that a feeling of devotion encompasses when you see the show.

Lord Shiva and Parvati / Sati have been called the "adi - dampati" or the first couple of this universe. The more you learn and read about Lord Shiva, the more you will get fascinated by him. I hope that this new found interest in mythology and god will not be a fad for me and will lay a good foundation for my spiritual journey.

In the next coming posts, I want to write about my fight with self over food, non-vegetarianism and vegetarianism.
